Hobby Lobby.
The store just sucks you in with its half off "sales" all the time, which I have learned cycle normally. Glassware, then floral, the seasonal and so on. It's their way of saying "Hey! We know you want to make this, so here are some supplies on sale but OH you have to buy everything else full price."
FALSE
For example. I desperately wanted to make a wreath. Hobby Lobby wreaths average around $50-100. I'm in college. I'm not paying 65 dollars for a wreath. So I browse. Vine wreaths are full price at 6 bucks. Not bad. Leaf strands are half off at 5.50. Great. Decor picks are full price. If you have no idea what picks are.. They are little mini sprays on a stick for easy insert into wreaths. You need a LOT of picks to make a full, pretty wreath. This drastically increases the price and breaks you're spirits of making the wonderful wreath you so desperately wanted to make. But wait.. Across the store floral stems are half off!!
So...Here's the solution
Wire cutters. Yes wire cutters. Pick out your floral stems, averaging at out 3.50 for rather large amounts. All you need to do is clip them apart. It may take a little more time, but your wallet will thank you, and if you really want, you can grab a couple full priced picks to celebrate you're thrifty-ness.
Here is my proof. I compared the wreath I made to a $75 pre-made wreath.
$29.00
I know it looks little because of the picture, but this thing is two feet in diameter, and has much more details than the picture shows. Now.. How do you make it?
Supplies:
- Grape vine wreath- $6
- Leaf vine- $5.50
- Various floral stems- varies on choices
- I used three picks, all pumpkins- $6
- Hot glue gun
- Plenty of glue sticks
- Wire cutters
- Gloves, if you prefer
- Imagination
Clip stems to preferred length, glue ends, and place where you like! Start with your leaf vine though. It's a perfect base. Depending on your speed, it may take anywhere form 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Mine was finished in about 20.. but thats because I'm crazy!
As fall is approaching, I thought this great to share early so you could get started!
Hope you enjoy!
